Hydrus microstent placement is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat glaucoma by inserting a tiny, flexible microstent into the eye’s drainage system, specifically the Schlemm’s canal. The stent helps improve the outflow of aqueous humor, which lowers intraocular pressure (IOP) and reduces the risk of optic nerve damage.
The procedure is often performed on patients with mild to moderate open-angle glaucoma and can be done in conjunction with cataract surgery for added benefit. The microstent is inserted through a small incision and remains permanently in place to provide continuous IOP reduction.
Hydrus microstent placement is effective in controlling IOP and has a low complication rate. It provides a long-term solution for glaucoma management with faster recovery times and fewer risks than traditional surgeries.
