Limbal relaxing incisions (LRI) are a surgical technique used to treat astigmatism, a condition where the cornea is unevenly shaped, causing blurry or distorted vision. LRI involves making small incisions at the corneal limbus (the border between the cornea and sclera) to flatten the steepest part of the cornea, improving its symmetry and allowing light to focus more accurately on the retina.
This procedure is typically performed in conjunction with cataract surgery or as a standalone treatment for mild astigmatism. LRI can reduce the need for corrective eyewear and improve visual clarity for patients with astigmatism.
