Secondary intraocular lens (IOL) implantation is a procedure performed when a patient requires an additional lens implant after cataract surgery or in cases of lens dislocation. This procedure is typically recommended when the original IOL becomes dislocated or if a patient has an inadequate IOL in place.
During the procedure, a new IOL is implanted into the eye, either in the same location as the previous lens or in a different area of the eye, to restore vision. Secondary IOL implantation is often performed using minimally invasive techniques, such as suturing the lens into place or using specialized lens implants.
Secondary IOL implantation can significantly improve vision, especially in patients who have experienced complications with their initial cataract surgery or lens implants.
