Axillofemoral bypass is a procedure used to bypass blocked or narrowed arteries between the axillary artery (in the armpit) and the femoral artery (in the thigh). This surgery is often performed for patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) or other vascular conditions that affect the lower extremities. A graft is used to reroute blood flow around the blockage, improving circulation and reducing the risk of complications such as limb ischemia or amputation.
Axillofemoral bypass is highly effective for improving blood flow to the legs and alleviating symptoms such as pain, leg weakness, and non-healing wounds.
